Many aircraft enthusiasts have been hoping for a British Airways retro jet and as part of its 100th anniversary this year, BA is finally going to make that dream come true. There is also a limited time special GBP100 flight offer.
The flight offer only runs from 21-24 January, so I’ll deal with that first. In essence, BA is offering a very limited number of seats in all its cabins for GBP100 each way. Promotional flights are released each day at 12pm London time (GMT). It’s first come, first come, first served. If you manage to book one of these bargain fares to a long-haul destination you may be lucky enough to fly on the first retro jet that BA is painting to celebrate its 100th anniversary.
A Boeing 747-400, G-BGYC, will be rolled out at Dublin airport in 1970s BOAC colours on 18 February 2019 and re-enter service the next day. BA says it will keep the jet in the old livery until its retirement in 2023. All BA’s 747s will be retired by 2024.
Alex Cruz, BA’s CEO, says that further jets will be painted in retro liveries through the year, but he is being coy about details.
